Jarrett Payton Biography
Jarrett Payton is an American sports reporter and host currently the host of WGN’s “GN Sports” program and sports anchor for the 4 p.m. WGN TV News broadcast. He has been an active team player of WGN News since joining the station in May 2015. Payton is the former co-host of WGN Radio’s The Beat program on Sundays.
Payton attended Saint Viator High School and later joined the University of Miami where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Arts in 2003. Before embarking on his broadcast career, he played for several teams in the running back position including; Toronto Argonauts Football Club, Montreal Alouettes, and Tennessee Titans.
From August 2011, he started co-hosting Chicago Bears Post Game Show. At the same time, he hosted “The Jarrett Payton Show” on www.jarrettpaytonshow.com.
Jarret also co-hosted the “Jarrett, Harry and Spike” radio show on Chicago’s former station The Game 87.7FM. In addition, he hosted his own internet radio show named the Jarrett Payton Show on ChicagolandSportsRadio.com.
Apart from his career on-air, Payton has a successful business life too. He is a partner in the successful sports bar in Saint Charles, Flagship on the Fox. He has also invested in other business projects partnering in the past with PapaNicholas Coffee to create Payton Premium Coffee Sweetness and the Payton Premium Coffee Rise and Grind Blends among others.
Jarrett made the transition into coffee after spending four years in the craft brewing business with his custom Jarrett Payton’s All-American Wheat Ale. Through this, he was inspired to create his own beer earlier memories of his father’s appreciation for craft beer.
As part of living his father’s legacy of making an impact in society, Payton is now focusing on connecting with children, serving as a role model, and stressing the importance of sports, education, and character through numerous public speaking events. He and his wife Trisha established The Jarrett Payton Foundation (JPF), a foundation that is committed to positively impacting the lives of children and adolescents by creating and providing programs that present them with a wide variety of opportunities specifically designed to develop their leadership skills and enrich their lives.
