Jason Colthorp is an American broadcast journalist from Michigan. He is currently serving as a news anchor and reporter for WDIV News 4 based in Detroit. Prior to his work on WDIV News, Jason spent a few years working as a correspondent for WILX News based in Onondaga, Michigan. He even gained more experience while working as an editor and multimedia journalist for various stations across Detroit and its neighboring states.
Colthrop is a Lansing Michigan native who grew up in a middle-class Native American household. He grew up as a very smart and intelligent who was always focused on his studies. Jason’s favorite studies in school were mathematics and science. He finished his high school education at Manatee High School. Jason then graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications
Colthrop launched his career as a broadcast journalist by working as an intern for various local stations in Michigan. He then joined WILX News as a news desk assistant. This is where Jason gained experience as an editor and behind the scene production assistant.
Eventually, he was able to make his TV debut as a reporter after being promoted to sports reporter by WILX’s management. He presented WILX’s Sports reports from early 2001. Jason’s most famous report on the station is when he presented the sports updates live from a volunteer marathon race that he had just finished running. Jason left WLX News and joined WDIV News in 2015.
