Jim Rose ( sports anchor) Biography
Jim Rose is a well-known American sports anchor who works for ABC 7 Chicago, the ABC affiliate in Chicago, Illinois. Currently, he serves as a sports director and anchor for the station from 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts. In addition, Rose is also the vice president of the Swan Group, a non-profit group created to give away the “Swan House” to a Chicago area single mother who achieved academic excellence in college. He joined the station in January 1982 and previously, he served on various channels like WIXT-TV and WLS-TV among others.
Jim was born and raised in Edison, New Jersey, United States. After high school, Rose enrolled himself at Rhode Island College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in mass communications. Shortly after graduation from college, Jim worked in the U.S. Army, and while there he began his broadcasting career as a sport director for AFN-TV in Berlin, West Germany. In addition, he also worked at WIXT-TV in Syracuse, New York as well as on the WLS-TV network.
Additionally, Rose is also the vice president of the Swan Group, a non-profit group created to give away the “Swan House” to a Chicago area single mother who achieved academic excellence in college. In 2006, he handed the keys to a 2,000 sq. ft. house over to a single mother with two children and a 3.8-grade average. Moreover, he also continues to volunteer his time to help many openhanded groups and worthy causes throughout the Chicago land area. He considers helping the needy as one of his greatest achievements despite being honored with various awards.
At ABC7 News, Rose plays a major role in the station’s programming specials. He is also a contributor to ABC 7’s Emmy Award-winning Our Chicago, a series of specials that celebrates the rich culture of the African American community in Chicago. Prior to that, he also hosts ABC 7’s annual broadcast of one of the largest parades in the country, the Bud Billiken Parade. Jim is currently working as a co-host to the station’s hour-long, live special, The Chicago Auto Show.
