Jim Spencer Biography
Jim Spencer is an Emmy Award Winning American meteorologist known for working as a weathercaster for KXAN News based in Austin, Texas. He has been working as the station’s morning and evening weather anchor for almost 31 years which is the longest time any employee has ever served at KXAN News. Jim Joined KXAN News in 1990 after completing a ten-year tenure working as a morning newscaster for News 36 First Cast. Jim announced his semi-retirement from KXAN News in 2021. He now works on a part-time basis.
Spencer was born and brought up by a working-class family living in the suburbs of Lindsay Oklahoma. He grew up as the eldest in his family of only three children. Spencer finished his high school education in his hometown. He then enrolled at the University of East Central in Oklahaom and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism and communications after working for four years.
Jim began his career by joining KTEN News as a broadcast journalist after his college graduation back in 1983. His incredible work at the station made him the chief meteorologist for the station. At KTEN, Jim was recognized for delivering the latest weather updates in the morning and evening. He also tracked different storms, tornadoes and hurricanes around Texas.
Jim even worked for two years at KADA AM Radio before finally joining KTEN News. He was also the recipient of a national recognition award for his incredible weather work and the National Weather Association’s Weather Caster of the Year just five years after joining KXAN News.
