Jock Zonfrillo Biography
Jock Zonfrillo is a famous Scottish chef, philanthropist, and TV presenter who owns the Orana restaurant in Adelaide. Currently, he is one of the new judges for MasterChef Australia alongside Melissa Leong and Andy Allen. Jock is also the founder of The Orana Foundation which was launched in 2016.
Zonfrillo was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and attended Belmont Academy but dropped out to pursue an apprenticeship in the kitchen at the Turnberry Hote. Before becoming the head chef at The Tresanton Hotel, in England, Jock worked for Marco Pierre White and the Arkle Restaurant in Chester. Thereafter, he traveled to Australia to work with Dietmar Sawyere at FortyOne restaurants. While there he was promoted to work as executive chef at Restaurant 41.
In 2013, he opened his own restaurant called Orana Restaurant and Street ADL. Four years later, his restaurant was named Restaurant of the Year 2018 by Gourmet Traveler Magazine. That same year, Jock won the position of Hottest Chef in Australia. The following year, his restaurant was once again given the title of Australia’s 2019 Restaurant of the Year by the Good Food Guide. At the end of 2018, Zonfrillo launched another restaurant called Nonna Mallozzi but a few months later it started making losses that caused it to be shut down. Thereafter, the Bistro Blackwood closed, followed by Orana in March 2020.
Zonfrillo joined MasterChef Australia, as one of the new judges alongside Melissa Leong and Andy Allen in 2019. On the other hand, Jock is also a founder of a charitable foundation called The Orana Foundation which started in 2016. The aim of the foundation was to preserve the refined cooking methods and ingredients used by early Australians.
