Jodi Hernandez Biography
Jodi Hernandez is an American journalist who is currently working as a general assignment reporter for NBC Bay Area at 5, 6, and 11 pm since joining the station in December 2002. Most notably, she began her journalism career at KCPM in Chico, California.
Later on, she moved east to Wichita, Kansas to work at KAKE-TV, an ABC affiliate. Two years later, Jodi came back to Sacramento, California to work at KOVR, a CBS affiliate. In 2002, she received a huge welcome from NBC Bay Area.
Throughout her career, she has won many awards and nominations. She has won the RTNDA award for Best Special News Program for “The Condit Interview” and was honored by the National Lesbian and Gay Journalism Association for a story called “Dana’s Metamorphosis.” In addition, she covered the Laci Peterson case where she interviewed Scott Peterson; the Chandra Levy-Gray Condit story where she landed an exclusive interview with Congressman Gary Condit.
In relation to her formal credentials, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from the University of California. Hernandez is also an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the California Chicano News Media Association. Every year, she mentors students at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Convention to produce a 30-minute student news magazine.
