John Dawson is a renowned American meteorologist currently working as a weekend meteorologist at KRIV-TV, Fox 26 News since August 2001. He also works as the Outdoor Recreation Reporter – “Find Life, Outdoors with JD”.
John attended Friendswood High School and graduated. He later joined Sam Houston University and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Radio/TV/Film. In addition, he joined Mississippi State University for a degree in Broadcast Meteorology and completed it successfully.
For the FOXRAD Hurricane Briefing, John was rewarded by the Houston Press Club with the 2011 Lone Star Award in Online Collaborative News Reporting.
Throughout hurricane season, John creates this multimedia hurricane preparedness resource. JD, a father of two boys, looks for family- and budget-friendly outdoor activities in the Houston area and beyond.
JD worked behind-the-scenes for FOX 26 News and as a producer for Family 45 television before joining the FOX 26 Weather Team in 2001. From 1998 until 2002, he worked as the Video Technology Director at his alma school, Friendswood High School.
For his work at Cable 7 in Huntsville, JD has been recognized by the Associated Press, nominated for an Emmy, and named “Weatherman of the Year”. JD, his wife, and their two sons are active members of their church and spend as much time outside as they can.
