John King Biography

John King is a veteran American news anchor currently serving as CNN’s chief national correspondent, based in Wahington, D.C. In addition, King is an anchor of CNN‘s roundtable political discussion program, Inside Politics.

Previously, John was serving as the anchor of State of the Union and John King, USA, a program that aired on weeknights at 7 p.m. in the East Time zone on CNN before its cancellation.

King started his career as a writer at the Associated Press, an American non-profit news Agency in 1985. In 1991, he became chief political correspondent, heading the Agency’s political coverage of the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections.

At the same time, he won the top reporting prize from the AP Managing Editors’ Association for his coverage of the Gulf War in Kuwait. In 1997, John joined CNN where he served as the senior White House correspondent from 1999 through 2005. In 2005, King became CNN’s chief national correspondent, a position he holds to date.

Adding to his roles, John anchors the Sunday morning news program, Inside Politics. The program features a rotating roundtable of members of the media who share their insights on current political topics with John. Moreover, King features on the nightly news programs; The Situation Room and Anderson Cooper 360°, sometimes filling as its anchor.

John is also known to use the Multi-Touch Collaboration Wall, first used during the primaries of the 2008 presidential campaign. This platform allows him to display and manipulate various graphics and maps relating to poll and election results. He further featured along with the “Magic Wall” in a Daily Show segment as well as CNN coverage of the US Presidential Election in 2016 and 2020.
