John MacArthur Grace Biography

John MacArthur Grace is an American non-denominational Pastor and author who is famous for his Christian radio and television program Grace to You. He is also a pastor at Grace Community Church. He has been a pastor ta this church since February 9, 1969, and is currently the chancellor of The Master’s University in Santa Clarita and The Master’s Seminary.

Being a strong and prominent preacher, he has been acknowledged by Christian Today as one of the most influential preachers of his time. Adding to his influence, he has written or edited more than 150 books. MacArthur Study Bible is one of his most prominent books which sold more than one million copies and also received a Gold Medallion Book Award.

Following his father’s footsteps, he enrolled at the fundamentalist Bob Jones College from 1957 – 1959. After a year off, he was accepted to the Free Methodist Church’s Los Angeles Pacific College. In his senior year there, he was granted a Master of Divinity from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles’s new Talbot Theological Seminary. Furthermore, he was given honoraria from Talbot Theological Seminary and from Grace Graduate School.

MacArthur has been involved in some controversies over the years regarding his remarks on certain topics. Furthermore, he is an outspoken critic of same-sex marriage, the ordination of women, and the Roman Catholic Church. In relation to this, he has delivered multiple sermons where he discusses these issues.

Recently during the COVID-19 global crisis, he contravened orders from Los Angeles County public health officials regarding services at Grace Community Church. He insisted that no one from the church has become seriously ill, despite reports to the contrary.

Following this incident, Los Angeles County sued the church over its refusal to close down, and the church counter-sued, claiming that the Country was violating the rights of Freedom of religion. Eventually, the lawsuits were settled. After everything was settled, the County and State paid $400, 000 each to Grace Community Church.

That was not the end of controversies for John, in a 2021 sermon, John stated that true democracy and freedom of religion are against Scriptural teaching. Furthermore, he spoke of a book publisher who declared that the Biden administration would support religious freedom. In turn, he stated that lobbying for religious freedom was advocating for the worship of false gods which is antithetical.

In 2022, he came under renewed criticism from prominent Christian sources when the videos of the sermons came to attention. Not only this but MacArthur has also been accused of promoting a white supremacist interpretation of the Curse of Ham.
