Julian Crews Biography
Julian Crews is an American journalist currently working as a general assignment reporter for WGN-TV Midday News and WGN Evening News. He has been working as a news reporter for WGN News since joining the station in 1996. At the station, Crews is also a reporter and producer for WGN America’s Cruisin’ Illinois and Wisconsin. He is also a News, feature, and Midwest Travel Reporter for the station.
Julian graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a minor in Radio-TV Communication. He then landed his first job in August 1988 as a Hispanic Magazine writer.
Jilian has reported all over Illinois, from Carbondale’s Shawnee National Forest to Chicago City Hall covering breaking news and feature reporting. He travels to every corner of the Chicagoland and Illinois region, bringing news of the day to WGN and CLTV Viewers.
Over the year, Crews has had various duties, from “Around Town” beat to politics and crime, producing in-depth, investigative pieces on Chicago street gangs and organized crime. Notably, his coverage of John Paul II’s visit to Cuba in 1998 was especially fulfilling for Julian.
Every spring, Julian takes people on a spirited road trip across the Land of Lincoln with the popular Cruisin’ Illinois travel series. His Cruisin’ web exclusives have become a major attraction on wgntv.com.
Before Julian joined WGN, he worked as a news reporter at WVEC-TV (ABC) between July 1992 and April 1996. He also worked as a news reporter for KHOU-TV News (CBS) from September 1988 to June 1992. At the station, he reported and produced for the weekly “First-Sunday” magazine show.
