Keahi Tucker Biography
Keahi Tucker is an American journalist who is currently working as an anchor and reporter at Hawaii News Now/KGMB (CBS affiliate). He joined the station in 2005. Prior to joining Hawaii News, he served as an anchor at KGMB-TV based in Honolulu. He is passionate about delivering high-quality news and his team at Hawaii News Now is the most competitive team that he has ever worked with.
Tucker attended and graduated from Waimea High School before enrolling at UH-Manoa for his degree in broadcast journalisms degree. Immediately after graduating, Tucker took on a job at the UH radio station before joining Channel 9. His first actual job was at KGMB-TV where he served as an associate. While at KGMB at the time, he had 7 bucks an hour to make phone calls, write short clips, edit videos, and fetch coffee for anchors.
The news director at the time refused to make Tucker a full-time reporter. The director sent Tucker to the most non-Hawaii place in the country, such as Topeka, Kansas. Tucker’s station was literally in the middle of a cornfield. Despite this fact, Keahi was a rookie reporter for six months covering tornadoes and grain prices.
Later on, the main anchor at the station quit and Tucker was the only other on-air person at the station to replace him and the director was left with no other choice than to give Tucker a chance. After the struggle, he got the chance and worked here for some years before moving to Baltimore. In Baltimore, he was given an overseas assignment to cover the 2004 Olympics, in Greece. He then flew back to his hometown. Currently, he serves as an Anchor for Hawaii News Now. He anchors the 6, 6:30, and 10 pm newscasts.
