Keith Jones Biography
Keith Jones is a six-time Emmy Award and Edward R. Murrow Award-winning News Anchor, Host, and Reporter for WCAU in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He joined the station back in July of 2012. You can catch him on weekday mornings anchoring NBC10 News Today from 4 am to 7 am. In addition, Jones also co-hosts The Lineup, a digital newscast streamed on the NBC10 apps on Roku and Apple TV. As well, he also files reports for NBC News.
Keith is a native of New Egypt in Ocean County, New Jersey and he graduated from Villanova University. He enjoys writing and sharing stories that influence the communities in which he grew up.
In addition to anchoring, Jones has field-anchored sporting activities for the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and 76ers. Also, he covered Super Bowls, college sports, and the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
Jone’s ideal stories include going over the border into North Korea during the Winter Games and covering the national title runs of the Villanova Men’s Basketball team in 2016 and 2018. The Villanova alumnus, who majored in Communication and Philosophy, was a one-time student-manager under head coach Jay Wright. As well, he practiced with the team occasionally.
“You were a good enough player that we used you in practice, so you were kind of like a half player, half manager,” said Jay in 2016. “You had good length, you had hops.”
Before joining NBC10 back in July of 2012, Jones served as an anchor/reporter at WHSV, the ABC affiliate in Harrisburg, VA. He then moved on to work as a reporter/fill-in anchor at WTAE, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh.
Since 2013, Keith has served as an adjunct lecturer of Broadcast Journalism at Villanova University. In 2018, he was awarded Villanova’s Young Alumni Medal, which is given yearly to one alumnus who has made significant contributions to one or more areas of society, including professional, academic, and also serves to the university.
Moreover, in 2014, Jones was awarded the school’s annual Ethos Award. The award acknowledges an alumnus who serves as a role model to students by exhibiting character, service, and greatness in the field of Communication. Additionally, the same year, Keith was honored with the University’s annual Young Alumni Medallion, given to an alumnus who’d graduated within ten years, prospered in his or her professional endeavors, and showed ongoing service to the society and the University.
Furthermore, Jones is an active member of the community, he also volunteers on the Board of Directors for nonprofits Main Line Deputy Dog, Turning Points for Children, and the Philadelphia Fireman’s Museum. Similarly, he is also an active volunteer with the American Red Cross of Eastern Pennsylvania and Villanova’s Office of Disability Services.
Jones attended New Egypt High School and he was the captain of the basketball team. He also performed the lead in the school musical all four years. Later on, he joined Villanova University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Journalism and Philosophy. Moreover, for three years as an undergraduate, Keith traveled the country with the Villanova Wildcats men’s basketball team. He traveled as a student manager as well as a practice player. During his leisure time, Jones enjoys playing both the guitar and piano and has also recorded original music.

In 2016, Keith’s long-term girlfriend Cara McCollum, 24, passed on at Cooper University Hospital just a week after sustaining head injures in a one-car accident on an icy Route 55 in Pittsgrove Township, Salem County, on February 15. The funeral took place in her hometown in Forrest City, Arkansas and a memorial service was held in Ocean City, New Jersey. Keith delivered the eulogy on both occasions.
Jones later said, “My late girlfriend Cara taught me it’s not the years in my life that count, but the life in my years.”

Jones has a Miniature American Shepherd called Charlie, whom he called “his shadow.” He has said his dog gave him a new outlook while he was grieving, “He’s become everything to me. Dogs are amazing. They have this amazing sense and amazing ability to understand how you’re feeling before you even realize you’re feeling it.” In 2016, the National Dog Show named Charlie its official “spokesdog” after they saw Jones post about him on social media.
