Keith Marler Biography
Keith Marler is an Emmy Award-winning American meteorologist currently working for six and a half hours every weekday with “Weather on the 9s” from 4:30 am to 9 am on the FOX 9 Morning News, as well, he hosts the “FOX 9 Buzz” from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and steering weather duties during “FOX 9 at 11 a.m.”
In college, Marler had a problem: he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life. He was interested in science but didn’t want to be confined to a lab. He wanted to be a teacher, but he didn’t want to teach in a tiny classroom. Keith enjoyed putting on a show, but wasn’t sure if that was a “job skill.”
Then, one spring evening, he had a career insight that would shape his decisions for the next several years: Keith decided to merge his two ideal careers of teacher and game show host and become (drum roll, please) a weatherman. So Keith completed his bachelor’s degree in physics and math at the University of Maryland before enrolling in meteorology graduate school.
Marler received his first taste of broadcasting while working on his master’s degree at TV stations in Washington, D.C. Despite making “the world’s worst resume tape,” he was hired as a morning meteorologist at KBJR-News6 in Duluth – his first trip to Minnesota.
Marler and his wife Susan (whom he met and married at the University of Maryland) packed their belongings and relocated to the north. Keith’s meteorological skills improved while he was in Duluth, and he was awarded the coveted Seal of Approval by the American Meteorological Society.

Marler returned to the nation’s capital after three years of snow, cold, and lutefisk to work as the weekend and noon meteorologist at WUSA in Washington, D.C. (see, internship contacts pay off.). Keith and Susan wanted to start a family while they were there, but their son was born prematurely and died from Trisomy-13 (a genetic disorder).
Within days of Marler and Susan determining that a fresh start was exactly what they needed, FOX 9 contacted to ask, “Hey…want to come back to Minnesota?” So, in 2003, the Keiths packed up their belongings and relocated halfway across the nation for the third time in six years, this time to the Twin Cities, where they have no plans to return.
Marler has delivered over 100,000 “On the 9s” morning weather updates, received several honors (including “America’s Favorite Weather Forecaster”), and volunteered for several charities (including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association, and eQuality, to mention a few).

Keith and Susan have expanded their family in Minnesota with the births of their daughter in 2004 and son in 2007, as well as a couple of crazy Bulldogs over the years as members of “Team Marler.”
Marler enjoys spending time with his family and friends (“home” is listed as his favorite vacation spot), watching movies (a holdover from his 6 years as a video store employee), geeking out on comic books (yes…comic books), and hanging out with his family in the afternoon (the ONLY benefit of starting work before 3 a.m.).
Regarding his education, Marler received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences from the University of Maryland. In addition, he studied for a Master of Science in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology. However, he has not yet graduated.
