Kristen Currie is an American award-winning meteorologist currently working for KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas, United States. Previously, she was working as a morning meteorologist in New Mexico at KRQE-TV, a CBS and Fox affiliate.
Born and raised in California, she never got a good environment to study weather fluctuations. This made her not show much interest in weather phenomena while growing.
She then joined the University of Colorado in Boulder where she studied a degree in Environmental Science. She further went deeper for two special courses; majoring in Climate while the minor one was Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.
In 2018, Currie pursued a certification in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. In this, she had to stay up late working on assignments or even watching classroom lectures. She also attended a three-day workshop which was a requirement before the certification.
During her period in Colorado, Kristen took a whole year of Internship at two companies; KMGH-TV, and KDVR-TV. Thanks to the broadcast stations that she received practical training in forecasting unpredictable, challenging weather conditions within or around the vicinity of the Rocky Mountains.

After her graduation, Currie relocated to Texas where she landed a job at KAMC-YV. She served for two years, thrilling her audience with her exhilarating on-air adventures related to dusty storms, icy weather, hailstones, windy conditions, and severe storms.
Two years later, she joined KRQE News 13 in New Mexico. While here, Kristen hosted “This Morning (4:30 AM)” and “KRQE News 12 at Noon”. She further spent over 4.5 years as the morning meteorologist forecasting for the entire state of NM, Southern Colorado, and Northeastern Arizona.
Currently, Kristen works with the first weather team as the weekend evening and noon meteorologist. She is already excited to be back in Texas exploring all Austin has to offer. Currie is a big foodie and has already started adventuring through ATX’s food & wine scene.
