Linda Lavin is an American singer and actress, best known for her character in the sitcom Alice. She is also known for her stage performances, both on and off Broadway. In the 1950s, she joined the Compass Players and started acting on Broadway in the 1960s.
Lavin rose to fame after appearing in It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane…It’s Superman. Additionally, she received a Tony Award nomination for Last of the Red Hot Lovers. Later, she moved to Hollywood where she made recurring appearances on the sitcom Barney Miller. This was before she landed the title role in the hit comedy Alice.
Additionally, she attended Waynflete School and studied acting at HB Studio in New York City. Later, she enrolled in the College of William & Mary where she performed with the William and Mary Theater in many productions directed by long-time Professor Howard Scammon.
