Phoebe Tonkin is an Australian actress and model who is well known for her roles as Cleo Sertori in H2O: Just Add Water, Fiona Maxwell in Tomorrow, When the War Began, Faye Chamberlain in The Secret Circle, and Hayle Marshall in The Originals.
Born in Sydney, Australia, she attended dance courses in classic ballet, hip-hop, contemporary dance, and tap dance. At the age of 12, she began courses at the Australian Theatre for Young People at the Wharf Theatre. She graduated from Queenwood School for Girls.
In 2005 she was cast in the Australian television series H2O: Just Add Water which premiered on July 7, 2006. The series has a worldwide audience of more than 250 million and ran for 3 seasons with the finale airing on April 16, 2010. In 2008, she was nominated for “Best Lead Actress in a Television Series” at the Australian Film Institute Awards.
She has also appeared on fellow Australian television shows Packed to the Rafters and Home and Away. In September 2010, she made her film debut starring in the Australian action ensemble film Tomorrow When the War Began. The film revolves around teenagers waging a guerrilla war against an individual foreign power in their fictional hometown of Wirrawee.

Tonkin played the role of the rich and uptight Fiona Maxwell. In December 2010, a sequel was announced with her expected to return. Tokin moved to Los Angeles to pursue an international acting career in January 2011. She was cast in March 2011 as Faye Chamberlain in the supernatural drama series The Secret Circle. The series premiered on September 15, 2011. The Secret Circle however had only one full season as it was canceled in May 2012.
In August 2010, she was cast in the 3D horror film Bait 3D. The filming of the film took place on Australia’s Gold Coast. In August 2012, she joined the cast of the television series, The Vampire Diaries, in the recurring role of Hayley. On 11 January 2013, The CW confirmed that a spin-off series of The Vampire Diaries was in the works. The new name for the series would be The Originals.
In October 2020, she launched her own clothing brand “Lesjour!”, a sustainable loungewear brand. She describes the brand as inspired by the leisure suit of the ’70s and California living. In addition, she cited that the clothing band was the reason she relocated permanently from New York back to LA- where the brand was designed. She also stated that she had the idea for a clothing brand for two years, and decided to launch it as her job as an actress was affected by COVID-19.
