Her journalism career started off at the University of Northern Colorado where she was in charge for four years. For her internship, she went to KKTV, immediately after her graduation.
During her internship, she impressed many and this made her get herself a job at KLTV. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Her research opportunities were many while she was still in college.
She visited Rocky Mountain National Park where she investigated avalanche probability on the mountain sides. She did this by digging snow pits to learn more about the deepest snow. Also, she has traveled to a third-world country where she investigated and researched flood management.
Besides being professional, Makayla enjoys running, swimming, and playing guitar. She loves it when people ask her about the weather because she enjoys informing people about the weather.
