Marissa Mitchell is an American Award-winning journalist currently working for FOX 5 Atlanta. Prior to joining FOX 5, Mitchell reported during the day and co-anchored the station’s “New edge at 11” on Weeknights. In addition, she spent a few months anchoring “Good Day Atlanta” on weekends.
Mitchell decided to become a journalist at the age of nine. As a teenager, she co-hosted the morning television show announcements at Dunwoody High School, where Ryan Seacrest, a fellow Atlanta native, and host graduated and had the same job.
Mitchell graduated from Emory University in Atlanta with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and journalism. She then joined Medill School of Journalism of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, under a McCormick Foundation full-tuition scholarship. She was also a Fellow at the Knight Foundation and Carnegie Corporation News 21. For her commitment to Emory and the local community. Moreover, Marissa was one of six alumni of her class elected to the Hall of Fame of the City.
In her first year of anchoring, Micthell was nominated for “Best Anchor” by the Regional Southeast Emmy Chapter. She covered numerous big incidents away from the anchor desk, including Hurricane Irma, Super Bowl LIII week, and several days of riots surrounding high profile, officer-involved shootings in 2016 in Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mitchell started her broadcasting career in Chattanooga, Tennessee as a WTVC-TV multimedia journalist. At the position, she covered breaking news including the deadly tornado outbreak of April 27, 2011, in the Southeast. She further worked with Rolling Out and Crossroads News as a journalist.
Additionally, Marissa is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Moreover, she mentors and lectures at numerous colleges, churches, and seminars with many budding journalists.
