Mark Stitz Biography
Mark Stitz is an American chief meteorologist working for KMTV 3 News Now Weather Alert Team since December 2017. Stitz is quite excited to be back in the Midwest with its warm summers and snow-filled winters.
Mark grew up in Canton, Ohio, the home to the Pro Football Hall of fame. He attended college in Ohio where he earned his meteorology degree from Ohio State University.
After enduring Cold and snowy winters in Ohio, Stitz relocated to the south, accepting his first television job offer in San Angelo, Texas. He spent almost four years forecasting the high heat and severe storms caused by dry lines. This has always been a common feature in the southern plains separating the dry desert air from the moist Gulf of Mexico air.
During his service in Texas, Mark earned the designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorologist Society. This is a grant awarded to broadcast meteorologists who meet established criteria for scientific competence and effective communication skills in their weather presentations.
He then relocated to Lexington, Kentucky, a region known for its thoroughbred horse farms and bourbon. He then spent more than two years there forecasting the kind of weather he grew up with, that is spring storms and winter snow.
Mark then relocated back to the south, working in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Even if at this time they had the very active 2017 hurricane season, the most impactful weather events were not from notable storms.
He was also on-air for hours helping to track the tornadoes in the outbreaks of February 2016 and February 2017. Baston Rogue and its surroundings also experienced historic flooding in August 2016 after raining more than 20 inches of water.
