Mike Armstrong is a Canadian journalist who is currently working as a Global National Quebec Correspondent. He has been with Global National since it first hit the airwaves in September 2001. As a national correspondent for Quebec, he has covered stories in every corner of the province.
Mike’s job has taken him beyond Quebec as well, to cover some of the biggest stories of this generation. He covered the tsunami in Indonesia, Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf, and the earthquake in Haiti. Armstrong is proud to say he has had the opportunity of reporting for every single province in Canada.
Like any other journalist, there is always that one story one is remembered for. One of Mike’s career highlights was in 1997 during the Quebec ice storm. He happened to be one of the few reporters who were sent to investigate how families were coping with the incident.
He happened to find a couple in their late 80s who refused to leave their home. The story won a national award, but that’s not what made it special. What made it special was that the story was told in the first person and the subjects were his grandparents.
