Mike Hoffman Biography
Mike Hoffman is a veteran American meteorologist currently working as the 16 News Cheif Meteorologist since returning to Michiana in 1994. Hoffman was based in South Bend, Indiana, the United States of America.
Mike is a proud graduate of Delphi Community High School in 1977 as a Valedictorian. Hoffman then joined Purdue University to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences in 1981. He relocated immediately after his graduation to work for Accu-Weather, Inc. in State College, PA, for three years of valuable experience.
Hoffman started his television career in 1984 at WSJV, the Fox affiliate in Michiana. He then moved to work as a meteorologist for WTRH-TV in Indianapolis for three years. Mike’s next move landed him a six years career as the Chief Meteorologist for WNEM-TV in Saginaw, Michigan.
He also had the honor of working for two of his mentors and worked for two different mentors and “heroes” of his, Bob Gregory in Indianapolis, and Dick Addis here at WNDU.
Besides working as a weekday evening meteorologist at WNDU, Mike also tapes the weather segments for AgDay and US Farm Report, which are shown on over 160 stations across the country. Hoffman’s weather reports have the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval.
Mike’s outside activities and hobbies include camping and hiking, as well as speaking to community organizations and school groups. Hoffman and his wife are active members of the United Methodist Church. She has been to Tapachula, Mexico 10 different times to work with underprivileged children.
Since his return to Michiana in 1994, Mike has been covered as the 16 News Now Chief Meteorologist. He spent much of the night of April 3rd, 1974, listening to a transistor radio broadcast of the massive tornado damage caused by the “Super Outbreak.”
