Mike Janssen Biography
Mike Janssen is an American meteorologist currently working as a weather forecaster at WGN WeatherCenter and CLTV. Before joining WGN, Mike worked as a meteorologist and also a reporter at WSIL-TV based in Carterville, Illinois, WYIN-TV based in Merrillville, Indiana, and WGNO-TV in New Orleans.
Mike grew up in Kankakee County and credits his father David, a former farmer for inspiring his interest in weather. He attended Herscher High School in 1994 before joining Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a degree in Mass Communications. Later on, Mike furthered his education, taking broadcast meteorology at Mississippi State University.
He started working as a producer and weather forecaster at WGN WeatherCenter after a year working at WYIN-TV in Merrillville. He then established himself by creating a weather segment Friday Forecaster. This show gave students a chance to give weather forecasts every Friday Morning.
Mike’s first-weekend on-air report in New Orleans occurred just days before Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Southeast Louisana, causing massive damage.
He is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society. In addition, Mike holds the AMS Seal of Approval.
