Morgan Deann Ortagus is a well-known American television commentator, financial analyst, and political advisor who served as spokesperson for the United States Department of State from 2019 to 2021. Previously, Morgan served as the United States Department’s spokesperson during Donald Trump’s administration.
Ortagus was born in Auburndale, Florida. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Master of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration from the Carey Business School. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Florida Southern College. While in high school, Ortagus took part in beauty pageant competitions to win college scholarships. She participated in Miss Orange Blossom, Miss Florida Citrus, Miss Auburndale, and Miss Teen Auburndale. She won Miss Florida Beauty and was awarded a scholarship worth $3,000 for the pageant.
Morgan began her government service as a public affairs officer at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she spent several months in Baghdad, Iraq. There she was an intelligence analyst at the U.S. Treasury in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis. Prior, Morgan was the principal liaison from the U.S. Treasury to the banking sector in Saudi Arabia.
Moreover, she also worked in politics as a campaign staffer for Florida Republican congressman Adam Putnam. In 2006, she was hired to work as press secretary on former Deputy National Security Advisor K. T. McFarland’s Senatorial campaign. She also volunteered for Jeb Bush’s 2016 presidential campaign. In the same year, she also worked as executive director at Ernst & Young (EY), where she helped found EY’s Geostrategic Business Group working on geopolitical risk analysis for investors. Apart from that, Ortagus also worked as a global relationship manager at Standard Chartered Bank working with clients from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Morgan also appeared as a guest host on ‘Fox News’ and ‘Fox Business.’ Some of her ‘Fox’ shows are ‘Outnumbered,’ ‘Fox and Friends First,’ ‘Bulls & Bears,’ ‘The Greg Gutfeld Show,’ and’ Fox News Specialists,’ among others. She has also served as ‘Fox News’s political and financial advisor. Morgan serves as a co-chairperson of ‘Maverick PAC,’ a body that provides a platform to the next generation of American leaders in business and politics.
In spite of that, Ortagus is one of the board members of the ‘Elizabeth Dole Foundation’ and the ‘Friends of the American University of Afghanistan.’ Additionally, Morgan joined ‘Concordia,’ a non-profit, non-partisan organization that facilitates meaningful partnerships for positive social impact.
