Morgan Deann Ortagus is a well-known American television commentator, financial analyst, and political advisor who served as spokesperson for the United States Department of State from 2019 to 2021. Previously, Morgan served as the United States Department’s spokesperson during Donald Trump’s administration.

Ortagus was born in Auburndale, Florida. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Master of Arts degree and a Master of Business Administration from the Carey Business School. In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Florida Southern College. While in high school, Ortagus took part in beauty pageant competitions to win college scholarships. She participated in Miss Orange Blossom, Miss Florida Citrus, Miss Auburndale, and Miss Teen Auburndale. She won Miss Florida Beauty and was awarded a scholarship worth $3,000 for the pageant.

Morgan began her government service as a public affairs officer at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where she spent several months in Baghdad, Iraq. There she was an intelligence analyst at the U.S. Treasury in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis. Prior, Morgan was the principal liaison from the U.S. Treasury to the banking sector in Saudi Arabia.
