Nicole was born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the United States when her parents were on an educational visa. However, she grew in Sidney, Australia, where director Jane Campion mentored her into acting. She eventually dropped out of high school to pursue full-time acting debuting in movies at the age of 16.
