Nicole Sommavilla Biography
Nicole Sommavilla is an American journalist who presently works for NewsChannel 9 in Syracuse, New York, as a morning anchor. You can catch her on weekday mornings from 4:30 to 7 a.m. In October of 2018, Sommavilla joined the NewsChannel 9 team.
Nicole earned a Bachelor of Science in Television-Radio with a minor in Integrated Marketing Communications from Ithaca College in May 2016. Nicole worked as a freelance reporter for News 12 Westchester and as the nighttime anchor and reporter for WSNN, The Suncoast News Network in Sarasota, Florida, before joining the NewsChannel 9 crew.
She was the primary medical reporter at WSNN and shared her stories with our Tampa coverage partner WFLA and NBC News Channel, making them available to any NBC affiliate throughout the country, with some of her stories running on NBC5 in Chicago and NBC4 in New York.
In addition, Sommavilla interned at WENY in Horseheads, NY; WBNG-Action News in Johnson City, NY; News 12 Westchester in Yonkers, NY; and Inside Edition in Los Angeles, CA before moving to Sarasota. From cook-offs to crime, she covered everything. Whatever the story, it is her responsibility to present both sides, and she takes delight in doing so.

Sommavilla enjoys spending time with her family and friends and staying active in her spare time. You can usually find her on the mat kickboxing, at a Pure Barre studio, or running with Dakota, my sweet dog, and favorite adventure companion. Nicole is also a die-hard Lightning supporter! The two of her most memorable experiences in Florida were anchoring 12 hours of nonstop Hurricane Irma and earning a Telly Award for her documentary Living with Lyme. Sommavilla was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2017 and also spends her free time raising awareness and advocating for greater research and funding.
Additionally, Sommavilla is thrilled to be returning to CNY and serving a community that she adores.
