Rob Elgas is an American reporter currently working for ABC 7 in Chicago as well as an anchor for the 4 pm news. Elgas joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News team on July 7, 2015. Additionally, in May 2016, he became the co-anchor of AMC 7’s top-rated 4 pm weekday news alongside Judy Hsu.

Rob joined the ABC 7Eyewitness News team as a reporter and fill-in anchor on July 7, 2015. Luckily, in May 2016, the veteran news anchor and reporter became the co-anchor of ABC’s 7 top-rated 4 pm weekend news alongside Judy Hsu.
Despite his arrival at Chicago’s most-watched television station, ABC 7’s Vice President of News, Jennifer Graves, acknowledged him and said he is an experienced journalist who has established a strong connection with Chicago viewers during 13 years covering Chicago and suburbs and thrilled to have him as part of their news team.
Previously, before Rob joining ABC 7, he worked at NBC 5 in Chicago where he anchored the early afternoon news and reported for the late evening news.
Moreover, Elgas has reported from Naplate, Illinois after a tornado outbreak devastated the small town. He has also co-hosted an Emmy award-winning broadcast of the Magnificient Mile Lights Festival parade together with Cheryl Burton, Janet Davies, and Judy Hsu.
Elgas has traveled to Washington, D.C. for the State of the Union, and covered breaking news in California and Texas for ABC 7. However, his memorable assignment was covering the historic World Series win by the Chicago Cubs. He later returned to Chicago in 2012 and worked for ABC 7 in El Paso, Texas. Elgas was also a weekend anchor before co-anchoring the morning show since 2000 to 2002. He started his broadcasting career behind the lens in Champaign-Urbana where he served as a photographer for WICD-TV.
Elgas won several Emmy Awards including an Emmy for breaking news coverage of a devastating tornado. He has as well been honored with the Associated Press and Peter Lisagor Awards for his Live breaking news coverage of protests in Chicago 2014. Additionally, he also won Emmy Awards for co-hosting various specials such as Winter Olympic special, “Hometown Hopeful”, featuring Chicago Olympians. Rob has covered two Olympics, the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy, and the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
