Shirley Henderson Biography
Shirley Henderson is a Scottish actress who was born in Forres, Moray, and grew up in Kincardube-on-Forth. She is one of the most famous actresses from Scotland having been awarded with numerous awards, She has received two Scottish BAFTAs, a VFCC Award, and an Oliver Award. Some of her film roles include Gail in Trainspotting and Jude in the Bridget Jones films among others.
She starred as Isobel Sutherland in the BBC series Hamish Macbeth. Henderson was nominated for RTS Awards for the BBC miniseries The Way We Live Now and the ITV television film Dirty Filthy Love, and received a BAFTA nomination for her portrayal of Claire Salter in the Channel 4 miniseries Southcliffe.
Talking about her education she attended and graduated from Dunfermline High School. As a child, Shirley started singing in local clubs, at charity events, in holiday camps, and even a boxing contests. She completed a one-year course at Adam Smith College, resulting in a National Certificate in Theaters Arts at the age of 16.
Her first television performance was in the leading role of Elizabeth Findlay in the 1987 ITV children’s television drama Shadow of the Stone. Later on, she moved into films, playing Morag in Rob Roy. She also continued her work in theatre, including many productions at the National Theatre in London. Recently, she appeared in the 2022 film See How They Run as Agatha Christie.
