Sonia Azad Biography
Sonia Azad is an Emmy Award-winning journalist and Health & Wellness reporter on the news segment News 8 Daybreak for the TV station WFAA-TV. Besides being on the screens, Azad is also a marathon runner and a certified Yoga instructor.
Up to now, she has covered major news stories both in the United States and the world at large. The powerhouse reporter shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
Sonia joined the University of Texas, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in journalism before relocating to Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. At Medill, she graduated with a Master of Science in journalism. She also acquired a Master of Legal Studies from Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law.

From an earlier interview, she stated that her interest in journalism began long ago when she was a child. As she watched the proceedings of the Persian Gulf War on television, she thought to herself that she wanted to become a news reporter. Although she has not become a war correspondent, Azad has realized her dream of becoming a journalist.
Before WFAA, Sonia worked for various TV stations in San Diego, Chicago, Waco in Texas, and college stations in Texas. In addition, she reported the 2008 presidential elections between Obama and McCain while working for the American University’s WAMU radio station.
Locally, she has also reported the medical aftermath of Hurricane Harvey that made landfall in Texas on August 25, 2017.
She was also on the forefront reporting for the Army Veteran Micah Johnson open fire on a group of Police officers killing five while injuring nine others.
In 2014, she reported on the gubernatorial campaigns for the Texas Senate member Wendy Davis, and the Ebola crisis in Dallas.
She joined WFAA in October 2015. The star is regularly seen on a weekday segment on the program, News 8 Daybreak, where she covers health, lifestyle, and wellness.
