Steve Villanueva is an American broadcast meterologist currently working as a morning weather anchor for WPTV News based in southern Palm Beach County. He joined WPTV’s Weather Alert team back in 2016 after completing a three-year tenure at WNBC News based in greater New York City. Villanueva also worked as a weekend meteorologist for WPIX News for the whole of 2012. He is known for tracking various hurricanes across the country, winter storms, blizzards and heavy rains during different seasons.
Villanueva was born and brought up in Queens, New York City to a middle-class Hispanic family. His parents moved to New York from Argentina before he was born. Steve grew up as a very intelligent kid who always wanted to become a meteorologist since he was in middle school. Villanueva finished his high school education in his hometown. From there, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Mississippi State Universty through a long-distance learning program in the broadcast meteorology department of the school. Villanueva then earned an Associate of Science degree in meteorology from Mississippi State University.
Steve began his career as an on-air meteorologist in 2009 by working regularly on weekends for an NBC affiliate called WRC NBC 4 News based in Washington DC. Metro Area. At WRC, Steve covered a wide range of weather reports like Hurricane Irma and other tornadoes that tore through Florida and neighboring states.
In 2010, Villanueva left WRC and moved to New Haven, Connecticut to work as a weekend weather reporter. After two years, He left WTNH and joined WPIX as a traffic reporter and a weekday meteorologist. Steve left WPIX towards the end of 2012 and moved to Florida to perform his current duties as the morning meterologist for WPTV NewsChannel 5 in 2016.
