Sylvia Perez is an American journalist who presently anchors WFLD-Fox TV’s Good Day Chicago daily editions and special segments. She began working for Fox 32 stations in October of 2016.
Perz and Linda Yu co-anchored the 11 a.m. newscast on Chicago’s WLS – TV from 1989 until 2013. She also covered daily health and medical investigative stories for the 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts as a Healthbeat reporter for the station.
Sylvia is a journalism graduate of the University of Oklahoma. She began her career in 1983. Perez previously worked in Houston and Amarillo, Texas, before joining ABC7. She also worked in Oklahoma, where her reporting earned her multiple accolades. She became interested in medical reporting while working as a weekend co-anchor at KPRC-TV in Houston. While in Chicago, she continues to do so.
Furthermore, the highlight of her career came when she covered the 50th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. She then followed an Illinois soldier back to Hawaii to see the USS Arizona, which had lost his brother and many other American military heroes.
Perez began working for ABC 7 in June 1989. She was fired from WLS-TV on June 20, 2013, after 24 years with the station, when the 11 a.m. newscast was canceled. In September, the 11 a.m. news she co-anchored with Linda Wu was canceled in favor of Windy City Live (WCL), which took up the timeslot after Live with Kelly and Michael relocated to 9 a.m. from WGN-TV. Perez was appointed to anchor WFLD-Weekend TV’s morning newscasts in September 2016, according to media critic Robert Feder’s blog. Perez also contributes to the daily newscast at 9 p.m.
Following her departure from ABC7, Perez founded Sylvia Perez Productions, which provides video training, media coaching, and other media services to non-profits in the Chicago region. Perez and her husband Daniel Blasdell currently live in the Chicago suburbs. Sylvia relisted her Hinsdale, Illinois mansion for $1.95 million in March 2016, after selling it for $2.4 million in 2013. Perez bought the house in 2006.
