Vanessa Welch Biography
Vanessa Welch is an American award-winning journalist who is the co-anchor of Fox 25 News at 5, 6, 10, and 11 p.m. with Mark Ockerbloom, Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz, and Sports Anchor Tom Leyden. She joined the station in 2015 covering important and impactful news stories across Massachusetts.
Vanessa flew to Colorado with local lawmakers to study the implications of marijuana legalization, reported live from Orlando following the 2016 Pulse Nightclub Shooting, and covered the state’s opioid issue and the Merrimack Valley Gas Explosions extensively.
Since moving to Boston, she’s also had the good fortune of covering World Championships and victory parades for the Patriots and Red Sox. Vanessa spent nine years as an anchor and reporter at WFTV in Orlando, Florida, before joining Boston 25 News. She previously worked at WTVD in Raleigh, North Carolina, as a reporter and fill-in anchor.
Vanessa started her broadcasting career as a reporter for KOSA in West Texas. Giving back to the communities she covers is one of Vanessa’s favorite aspects of her profession.
She is active in Boston Partners in Education, Veterans Inc., the American Red Cross of Massachusetts, Make-A-Wish, the New England Chapter of JDRF, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and BUILD Greater Boston, a youth entrepreneurship program supporting under-resourced neighborhoods. She has won two Emmy Awards for Best Anchor in Boston/New England.
