Walter Makaula Biography
Walter Makaula is a popular American Emmy Award-winning journalist currently working at KCRA as the weekend evening anchor. He is also the weekly reporter who is part of the KCRA News investigative team. He joined the station in August 2017.
Makaula comes to Northern California from Miami where he co-anchored the weekday morning newscast for the CBS-owned & operated station WFOR in Miami, Florida. He has a diverse journalist environment. His expertise ranges from stories about international fugitives on the run to as well as the Hollywood red carpet.
In addition, Makaula received the Crime Stoppers International Media Award in Calgary Canada for his television news series Hawaii’s Most Wanted. Also, his reports and collaboration with federal, county and state law enforcement agencies led to the apprehension of 12 fugitives.
Makaula has covered the So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol finales for viewers across the country, as well, he has interviewed newsmakers including Hillary Clinton, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ben Affleck, and David Beckham.
Walter has the ability to choose warm-weather cities with great beaches to live and work in. Before moving to Miami, he spent almost six years anchoring all of the FOX affiliate’s evening newscasts in San Diego.

Initially, he worked in Hawaii where anchored the 5 p.m. news at NBC affiliate KHNL, he also co-anchored the station’s top-rated evening newscast at 9 p.m. each weekday. Previously to joining Makaula worked as a general assignment reporter at KGMB, the CBS affiliate in Honolulu.
Besides, before his television broadcasting career, Walter created and produced the award-winning Entertainment News Review show. During his free time, Makaula enjoys traveling to exotic places. In the last two years, he’s been to Thailand, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Colombia, Peru & Chile, Laos, and Mexico. In addition, he has lived in Paris, Tokyo, and Milan.
