Yamiche Alcindor is an American broadcast journalist who rose to fame for working as the current Washington correspondent for NBC News, Previously, she spent almost two decades working for Washington Week on PBS and also as a reporter for PBS NewsHour. Alcindor even spent a few years working for USA Today and The New York Times before finally moving to PBS News. She mostly wrote stories about politics and social issues for The New York Times.

Alcindor was born and raised in the suburbs of Miami, Florida to Haitian parents who migrated to the United States before she was born. She grew up as a very smart and hard-working kid. Alcindor attended a private high school situated in her hometown while interning at a local African-American newspaper called the Westside Gaxette and Miami Herald back in 2005. Therefore, she gained experience as a journalist when she was in high school. Yamiche then enrolled at Georgetown University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English and government studies with a minor in African-American studies.

Alcindor landed her first-ever job as a full-time reporter at Newsday based in Melville, New York. She worked for Newsday for close to two years covering major stories like the 2010 Haiti earthquake before her official departure. In 2011, Yamiche joined USA Today as a multimedia reporter. During her time at USA Today, she gained more fame and popularity for covering stories like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and the killing of Trayvon Martin among other famous stories.

She also made various guest appearances on Morning Joe, the Rachel Maddow Show and Meet the Press during this time. Yamiche left the USA today and joined The New York Times, She worked for the New York Times for around five before joining Wahington Week. She then left Washington Week on PBS and officially landed her current position as a correspondent for NBC News back in February 2023.
