Ben Kaplan Biography
Ben Kaplan is an American journalist who has worked as an anchor at WCTV since September 2016. He anchors the newscasts at 4, 5:30, and 11 p.m. Monday through Friday. After years of enduring “cold” winters in the Pacific Northwest, News Anchor and MMJ Kaplan are thrilled to be joining the WCTV team in Florida.
After almost three years as an anchor and sports director at KFBB, the ABC/FOX affiliate in Great Falls, Montana, Kaplan has relocated to Tallahassee. He covered everything from election season to National Police Week in Washington, D.C. after a local sheriff’s deputy was slain in the line of duty during his tenure in the Treasure State.
Prior to coming to Great Falls, Kaplan worked for nearly five years at KXLY, an ABC affiliate in Spokane, Washington, where he was nominated for a Regional Emmy for a series about people who use sports to overcome personal and physical challenges. Ben has previously worked at WWSB in Sarasota, Florida, where his family has lived since 2000, and this is one of the reasons he is pleased to return to the Sunshine State.

Ben places a high value on community involvement. While in Spokane, he was a ‘Big’ and was involved in various fundraising initiatives for charities such as Big Brothers Big Sisters. He’s eager to get active in the Big Bend area as soon as possible.
Go Griz! Kaplan graduated from the University of Montana in 2002. He’s also a huge Cubs fan who always hopes that ‘this is their year.’ He’s also looking forward to attending a football game at Florida State. Despite the fact that it is not Montana, he appreciates the beautiful trees and greenery that the Tallahassee area has to offer.
