Ben Mankiewicz Biography
Ben Mankiewicz is an American journalist, television personality, political commentator, and film critic who is currently the host of Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Mankiewicz has been a commentator of The Yong Turks and What the Flick?! He attended Georgetown Day School for his primary and secondary education. Later on, he attended Tuff University for his undergraduate studies and Columbia Univerisity for graduate studies.
After graduating, Ben began his career as a reporter and an anchor for WCSC-TV (a CBS affiliate) in Charleston, South Carolina. After his service at WSCS-TV, he joined WAMI in Miami, Florida in 1998, where he served as an anchor of The Times, a daily news magazine show, and the station’s highlight program.
Currently, he is the host of Turner Classic Movies. When he made his debut on TCM in September 2003, Ben became the second host hired in the network’s history. As a film critic, he co-hosted the nationally syndicated television series At the Movies from 2008 to 2009. He also co-hosted the online film review to show what the Flick?! on The Young Turks Network.
In April 2020, he launched the TCM original podcast, “The Plot Thickens,” in which he interviews renowned director Peter Bogdanovich, who chronicles his life outside of the film. The podcast is scheduled to have others connected to the film interviewed in a subsequent podcast.
In addition, Mankiewicz has made brief appearances in the Life television movie The Bling Ring and the action film White House Down. He has also appeared regularly on other shows as a political and media commentator, including The Michael Brooks shows show in 2017, and hosts a segment on the CBS Sunday morning show called screen Time.
