David Lyden Biography
David Lyden is an award-winning American journalist who is currently working as a reporter and anchor at 9&10 News since joining Northern Michigan as an intern in May 2014. Lyden anchors 9&10 News at Noon and 5, and 9& 10 News at 7 on Local 32. He also hosts a monthly podcast devoted to unsolved crimes and mysteries in northern Michigan.
He attended Fairview High School in May of 2011. Later on, he joined Central Michigan University where he graduated with a degree in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts. While there, he anchored the school’s award-winning news station, News Central 34. In addition, he called CMU Women’s basketball, CMU Baseball, and CMU Softball on the school’s radio station Moore Rock Radio 91.5.
During his time at 9&10 News, he has been recognized as one of the top reporters in the state by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Michigan Associated Press. Moreover, he was honored by the Michigan AP for his coverage of the Bay Kate trail in Ludington in October of 2016.
The MAB honored him in 2019 for his investigation into financial double-dipping allegations at a northern Michigan school district. He was also honored in 2019 for his investigative work by The MAB and Michigan AP. He helped the station’s coverage of the 2016 & 2020 Presidential Elections. This included a pair of interviews with Vice President Mike Pence during his visits to Traverse City.
Lyden also traveled to Madisonville, to cover the Great American Eclipse in August of 2017. When not working, he spends time traveling, reading, cooking, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.
