Eden Checkol Biography
Eden Checkol is an Ethiopian-American anchor and reporter who recently worked at WPLG and WSFL as an evening news anchor in Miami, Florida. She joined the station in April 2021. Previously, she worked as the morning weekday edition anchor and reporter at WISN 12 News based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Moreover, before joining WISN 12 News, she served for two years as a reporter and fill-in anchor in 2017 at WISC-TV, Madison.
Checkol attended Roseville Area High School, where she graduated with her high school education level. Immediately, she enrolled at the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts majoring in communication and journalism. She also has a minor in business administration from the same university.
Eden joined WPLG and WSFL stations in April 2021. She serves as a 10 p.m. news anchor in the station located in Miami. Prior to joining the station, she served as the weekday anchor at WISN 12 News, anchoring at 4.30 a.m. “This Morning” as well as 12 News at 11 a.m. Eden joined the station in 2017 as a weekend morning anchor and reporter, where she reported on several newscasts.
Additionally, Checkol also served as a reporter and fill-in anchor at WISC-TV, a CBS affiliate for a period of two years. She covered a wide range of stories such as human interest features and breaking news.
Checkol began her career in Duluth, Minnesota at KBJR 6 and Range 11/CBS KDLH as a fill-in anchor and reporter. Moreover, she also worked as a multimedia journalist where she wrote, shot, and edited at the same time. Her interest in journalism began when she was a teenager as she was inspired by her father who was a professor of journalism.
