Eric Spillman Biography
Eric Spillman is an American journalist who is currently working as a reporter for the KTLA 5 Morning News. He joined KTLA in 1991 as part of the Morning News team. Since then, he has covered virtually every major news event in Southern California.
Spillman studied English Language and Literature/Letters at the University of California. He then started his career at KBSY-TV in 1986 as a news reporter. After working for two years, he moved to KLAS-TV to serve as a news reporter.
In 1991, Eric left KLAS-Tv for KTLA where he has been working as a News Reporter for the network. He is a recipient of several Emmys, Golden Mikes, Los Angeles Press Club, and other awards.
His commitment to living reporting has earned him numerous Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards for best live news coverage. In 2004, Spillman became part of the KTLA Morning News: First Edition team to win an Emmy for the best regularly scheduled newscast.
Moreover, Eric received a Golden Mie Award from the Radio & Television News Association for his coverage of the North Valley Jewish Community Center shooting in 2000. He followed up with an Associated Press Television-Radio Award for best live news coverage in both 2002 and 2005.
He is also a recipient of a Los Angeles Press Club Award for best television breaking news coverage. Even after the long service at the station, Eric says that he still enjoys his job and finds it a privilege to see the city come to life every morning.
Eric regularly donates his time at community events, including the annual MS Bay to Bay bike rise. He also enjoys mountain biking, rollerblading, and sleeping.
