Gordon Ramsay is a Scottish celebrity chef, restaurateur, writer, and television personality. He has opened restaurants across the world and is famous for hosting popular TV programs like ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ and ‘MasterChef.’

At an early age, Gordon had an interest in athletics. However, he soon left the promising carer to become a renowned chef in London. By the early 200s, Ramsay was making his mark on British television as the temperamental host of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen. These shows son made a transition to American audiences. Since his breakthrough, the award-winning chef has expanded his brand through programs like MasterChef and Hotel Hell, opening more restaurants around the world.

Ramsay was born in Johnstone, Scotland, and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, England after relocating with his family at the age of 5. His first passion was in soccer where he set his dream on becoming a professional sportsman. At the age of 15, Gordon joined the Glasgow Rangers, a pro club.

When the restaurant started facing a financial crisis, Gordon left Aubergine in 1998 and opened his own restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsey in London. Within a short time, the restaurant received a three-star rating from Michelin. In the following years, Ramsey opened several new restaurants including Petrus, Verre in Dubai, and a second Gordon Ramsey in London.

In 2000, Ramsay was named Chef of the Year at the years Catey Awards. Moreover, he received an independent Restaurateur award of the Year in 2006. Come 2006, he moved his restaurant business to the United States, first opening two restaurants in London, New York City. Gordon has since spread his reach around the world, bringing his brand to countries such as South Africa, Canada, and Australia.

In 2004, Ramsay was named to host two programs; In Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, and in Hell’s Kitchen. For the first one, Gordon sought to turn around falling restaurants while in the second one he ran a cooking competition among 10 celebrities, where the audience voted off the contestants.

In May 2005, Gordon had an American version of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX, a program that placed aspiring restaurateurs on the watch of the show’s host. Ramsay also ran another culinary series in the United Kingdom called The F Word.

Gordon’s strong ratings on the United States screens opened the door for another version of Kitchen Nightmares, in September 2007. It also led to the American production of MasterChef (2010), MasterChef Junior (2013). Gordon headed both programs as the head judge. In 2012, he slotted another show, a variation of his “save a failing establishment” theme with Hotel Hell.
