Guy Raz is a renowned American journalist, correspondent, and radio host currently working at National Public Radio (NPR). Raz has been described as “one of the most popular podcasters in history” by The New York Times and his podcasts have a combined monthly audience of 19.2 million downloads. He is also the co-creator of three NPR programs: TED Radio Hour, How I Built This, and NPR’s first-ever children’s program, Wow in the World, co-hosted with Mindy Thomas.

Guy started his career as an intern on All Things Considered with NPR in 1997. He would then go on to work as a production assistant, studio director all the way to foreign correspondent, and breaking news host. His first job in Journalism was as assistant to the legendary news reporter Daniel Schorr.

In 2000, when Raz was 25 years old, he made NPR’s Berlin bureau chief where he covered Eastern Europe and the Balkans. During his six years stay abroad, Guy covered everything from wars and conflict zones to sports and entertainment. He reported from over 40 countries including the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Macedonia, and the ongoing conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

He also served as NPR’s bureau chief in London, and between 2004 – 2006 as CNN’s Jerusalem correspondent. During this time, Raz chronicled everything from the rise of Hamas as a political power to the incapacitation of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Israel’s 2005 withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. In 2006, he returned to NPR as a defense correspondent covering the Pentagon and the US Military.

Raz received the Edward R. Murrow Award and the Daniel Schorr Journalism Prize for his reporting from Iraq. NPR has received two duPont awards and one Peabody award as a result of his reporting. He’s been a Livingston Award finalist four times. He’s received numerous awards, including the National Headliner Award and the NABJ Award. He studied classical history at Harvard University for a year as a Nieman journalism fellow in 2008.
