Jamie Ertle is a popular American meteorologist who currently serves as a meteorologist at WTOC. She joined the station in the spring of 2015 and has received many hats since. She rose through the ranks to become the manager after producing The News at 6 and 11 and joined the weather team after obtaining a degree at Mississippi State (with the aid of some classes at Georgia Southern).
Ertle was born in Charleston, South Carolina, the United States of America while her father was based at Charleston AFB. She relocated to Indianapolis as a child, attended college in Florida, and couldn’t be more excited to live and work in Savannah.
Ertle has used her off-air talents to raise funds and awareness for groups like Court Appointed Special Advocates in their Dancing with the Stars rendition; she won best dancer and raised over $12,000. She is a “Big Wig” alumni for Bowled for AMBUCS Savannah, Susan G. Komen Coastal Georgia, and is an advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association.
In addition, while working at a TV station in Fort Myers, it was Hurricane Charley, a Category 4 hurricane, that ripped through the area that really moved Ertle to go back to school. Moving forward to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry’s recent hurricane season, the Georgia Broadcaster’s Association recognized the WTOC weather team, including Ertle, with an Excellence in Broadcasting Award for their coverage of Hurricane Matthew.
Furthermore, Ertle has obtained two degrees, one from the University of Central Florida in Broadcast Journalism and another from Mississippi State in Broadcast Meteorology. She also loves the book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and she also thanks her grandparents for watching the news every night, so she could watch the weather.
