Jane Pauley is a famous American TV journalist and author who has been in the field since 1972. Currently, Jane is an anchor of the CBS Sunday Morning show. However, she is known for her service with NBC’s Today Show and Nightly News, a program she has run for 13 years. She also followed a 12-year co-host of Dateline NBC.

Jane cohosted the Today Show from 1976 to December 29, 1989, first with Tom Brokaw and then with Bryant Gumbel from January 1982. She also hosted the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News from 1980-1982. Taking after the first female anchor of the program Barbara Walters, she became a symbol for professional women, specifically female journalists.

Soon after her first twin delivery, she became a role model for working mothers. In October 1989, Pauley announced to be leaving Today’s show after her 13 years of service.

After Jane announced she was leaving Today, she received more than 4000 letters of support, including one from Michael Kinsley, then of The New Republic, which crowned her “heroine of my generation.

On March 31, 1992, NBC launched Dateline at its 18th appearance in a news magazine. She co-hosted the program from 1992-2003 alongside Stone Philips. However, Jane surprised NBC by declining to renew her expiring contract.

Ironically, her decision to leave Dateline led her to yet a new role as a daytime talk show host. In 2004, she returned to television as the host of The Jane Pauley Show, a syndicated talk show aired by NBC Universal.

On April 27, 2014, following an appearance during a “where are they now” section and interview on CBS Sunday Morning. She began contributing to the show as a correspondent and occasional guest host. She has been a guest host for CBS This Morning and also filled in for Scott Pelley on the CBS Evening News. However, later on, September 25, 2016, it was announced that Pauley would be taking over as the host of CBS Sunday Morning following the retirement of Charles Osgood.
