Jeff Baskin Biography
Jeff Baskin is an American journalist currently serving as the Chief Meteorologist for KLRT FOX 16 News. He joined the FOX16 crew in January 2009. He has over 12 years of experience forecasting all kinds of extreme weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes, snow, and ice storms.
Before joining FOX 13, Baskin worked as an on-air meteorologist at WFOR in Miami. While there, he helped Floridians weather a very active 2008 hurricane season. Prior to that, Jeff served as a chief meteorologist at KOIN in rainy Portland, Oregon, as well as a weekend meteorologist at WVUE in New Orleans.
In addition, while in New Orleans, Baskin acquired more experience with extreme weather, forecasting for 6 years on the Gulf Coast, including the destructive 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons.
Jee was working in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, destroying the station where he worked and flooding the neighborhood where he lived with water. Similarly, while in New Orleans, Baskin was awarded two times for “Best Weathercast in New Orleans” by the New Orleans Press Club.
Jeff is a native of Upstate New York and he graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a degree in meteorology. His career kicked off in Utica, New York as a meteorologist and general assignment reporter. In an area that averaged 90 inches of snow a year, Baskin forecasted more than his fair share of huge snow and ice storms.
Furthermore, Jeff gets into the community to educate people about the weather. He has done many school talks and emergency preparedness seminars. Baskin has also been active in fundraising for the March of Dimes. During his spare time, Jeff enjoys doing anything that’s outside of the sun.
