Karl Stefanovic Biography

Karl Stefanovic is an Australian television presenter and journalist for the Nine Network. Currently, he co-host of the Nine Network’s breakfast program Today and presents for 60 Minutes. In addition, Stefanovic has been honoured with the Gold- Logie for distinguished contribution to the media. Moreover, he also became famous after engaging with Jasmine Yarbrough, the founder of Mara & Mine.

Karl graduated from Anglican Church Grammar School before furthering his studies at the Queensland University of Technology. He graduated with a degree in Journalism and afterwards headed to St Augustine’s College. After college, he took part in the NIDA audition but was eliminated after a few rounds. After being eliminated from the NIDA, he was hired to work at WIN Television in Rockhampton.

At WIN TV, he worked as a cadet reporter and later moved to TVNZ network, where he served as a reporter for One Network News in New Zealand. In 1998, he returned to Australia and worked as a reporter and presenter for Ten News in Brisbane. He also served as a fill-in news presenter for Ron Wilson in Sydney.

In 2000, he joined the Nine Network as a reporter and back-up presenter for Nine News in Brisbane. In his first year at the network, Stefanovic won the Media Award for Best News Coverage for his report on the Childers backpacker hostel fire. Moreover, his coverage of the 2003 Canberra bushfires was influenced by his reportage on the 2001 Warragamba bushfires from Sussex Inlet in January 2002, which led to his hiring at Nine’s Sydney newsroom.

Apart from that, Karl also worked as the host of Today after replacing Steve Liebmann in February 2005. Thereafter, he participated in Torvill and Dean’s Dancing on Ice, a reality television program on the Nine Network. In 2008, Stefanovic took over as host of Nine Network’s Carols by Candlelight alongside Lisa Wilkinson. Later on, he was replaced by David Campbell who took over as host of Carols by Candlelight.

Besides that, he also worked as a contributor reporter on 60 Minutes and hosted the Sunday evening edition of A Current Affair. At the end of 2011, he became a member of aboard racing supermaxi yacht Investec LOYAL, which won the honour in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Furthermore, he has also hosted the TV panel show The Verdict on the Nine Network. The weekly program combined features of The Project and Q&A, but it courted controversy due to its panellist lineup.

In 2017, he began presenting This Time Next Year on the Nine Network. In the following year, he left the Today show however, he returned in January 2020. After his return, he worked together with reporter Allison Langdon on the Weekend Today and 60 Minutes show. As of 2020, he celebrated his 20 years of working with the Nine Network.
