Lara Spencer Biography

Lara Spencer is an Emmy award-winning anchor and current contributor for “Good Morning America”, and has been with ABC News for 14 years. She is also a correspondent for Nightline and ABC News. She is also a creator and host of HGTV’s Emmy Award-winning “Flea Market Flip”, the creator, EP, and host of “Everything But the House” on HGTV.

Previously, Lara was the host of the syndicated entertainment newsmagazine The Insider from 2004 to 2011, and a regular contributor to CBS’s The Early Show. Before this, she was the national correspondent for Good Morning America and spent several years as a lifestyle reporter for WABC-TV. Spencer also hosted Antiques Roadshow on PBS for the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and Antiques Roadshow FYI, “Flea Market Flip” and the creator, EP, and host of “Everything But the House” on HGTV.

Spencer attended Garden City High School where she graduated in 1987. She then attained an athletics scholarship that landed her at Pennsylvania State University. She concentrated on her education and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Following college, Lara went into the NBC page program where she would volunteer to work with other reporters in order to gain experience. She then landed a position at the CBS affiliate WDEF-Tv in Chattanooga, Tennessee, serving as reporter, producer, editor, cameraman, and news-van driver.

A year later, she joined News 12 Long Island and after two years she started anchoring the 3 AM newscast for WABC-TV. At the station, Lara covered the TWA Flight 800 crash, which was considered her big break. She then joined ABC’s Good Morning America in 1999 as a national correspondent.

In 2011, Lara has named a co-host of Good Morning America. However, she took a step back from her acclaimed position to focus more on her media company, Duffkat Media starting in 2018. Since then, Spencer has been working a few days a week for GMA, primarily shooting from home.

Lara is also a big name when it comes to her HGTV show, Everything But the House, which premiered in March 2019. For the few years she took off between her second return to GMA was to give birth to her second born. This followed her passion for being an antique dealer and interior designer. She also created and produced two shows for HGTV, IT’s WORTH WHAT??, a game show featuring amazing finds, and her hit series; Flea Market Flip, which pits two teams of avid flea market patrons against each other.

In 2014, she published her second New York bestseller, Flea Market Fabulous with her tips to bargain hunting and flea marketing.
