Michael Brownlee Biography
Michael Brownlee is an American journalist who presently works as a co-anchor of the 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. news at NBC 4 News in Los Angeles. In 2011, he became a roaster for the station.
Brownlee is a natural in front of the camera. His journalistic approach hits the ideal combination of breaking news and personal stories that audiences enjoy. He also covers NBC4’s dedication to diversity reporting and communities joining together to pay it forward through Life Connected stories.
He also co-hosts the station’s Black History Month Special, a 30-minute show dedicated to stories of black excellence and inspiration. Michael also takes part in NBC 4’s Clear the Shelters pet adoption event, as well as the Kingdom Day and Juneteenth parades and other community events.

Brownlee began his career in radio marketing before moving to television in 1995 as a general assignment reporter for the Yuma, Arizona-based NBC affiliate. He was quickly promoted to the station’s anchor role. He went on to work as a reporter for the syndicated video magazine show “Real TV” after that.

Prior to joining NBC4, he worked for My13News as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor, and before that, he worked for the KCOP/KTTV duopoly in Los Angeles as a fill-in anchor and general assignment reporter. He also spent three years as a general assignment reporter for CBS2 in Los Angeles.
He has also received a Golden Mike Award for Best Sports Reporting and was a member of the news team that won a Los Angeles region, Emmy, for Best Daytime Newscast for NBC 4 News at 4 p.m. in 2020.
Brownlee is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and has a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from San Diego State University. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two daughters.
