Mireya Villarreal is an American journalist who is currently working as a National News Correspondent for CBS News in Los Angeles, California since July of 2015. Prior to this, she worked as an investigative reporter at CBS 11 and QOAI-TV.
Villarreal after completing her primary and high school education attended the University of Texas Pan-American and graduated in 2001. Following her graduation, she got her start in her journalism career at KGNS-TV in Laredo, Texas, where she worked as a weekend sports anchor and reporter.
Currently, she is a CBS News correspondent based in Los Angeles. Her time here has led to her covering a wide range of breaking news stories. These stories include; the school shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon and the Environmental Protection Agency’s contaminated water leak into the Colorado River in Durango. In addition, she has also reported on the devastating wildfires in California that burned 36, 000 in June 2016, and the methane gas leak in Porter Ranch, Calif.
She is a well-experienced investigative reporter who covered consumer issues and also exposed government corruption across Texas before she joined CBS News. Moreover, she won Emmy awards for uncovering excessive spending by DFW International Airport executives, and many other stories. In addition, she is a recipient of two Texas Associated Press awards due to her stories on immigration and child safety.
