Phil Black Biography
Phil Black is an Australian CNN International freelance reporter and correspondent based in CNN’s London bureau. He joined CNN in April 2007, covering stories around Europe. In 2008, Phil was part of CNN’s team covering the Russian-Georgian conflict, which broke out over separatist South Ossetia.
Previously, he was a reporter for Seven News in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He joined Seven News as a senior producer in 2000 and later moved to the reporting team. Some of the stories he covered include the CityRail crisis, Redfern riots, the 2002 Christmas bushfires, and the Sarah, Duchess of York pay for access scandal in May 2010. One of his notable stories was in December 2004, where he reported from Sri Lanka after the Boxing Day tsunami.
He received an associate diploma in Journalism at Macleay College in Sydney. After his graduation, Phil started his career on Australia’s Channel Nine ‘Gateway’ program as a researcher. He was for the channel for five years as both a producer and later a news reporter.
Black is an International Correspondent for CNN based in the station’s London Bureau. Before moving to London, Phil was CNN International’s Russia correspondent based in Moscow. He reported on a number of high-profile stories from the region including Vladimir Putin’s landslide re-election as president and the controversial arrest and detainment of protest punk group Pussy Riot.
He joined CNN International in April 2007 as a freelance reporter. Since then, he has worked on numerous stories such as the Finnish classroom shootings, the McCartney-Mills divorce hearings, the attempted London terror attacks, the search for Madeleine McCann, and the Princess Diana inquest.
