Richard Stephen Wilkin is a renowned Australian television and radio presenter. Currently, he works as the entertainment editor for the Nine Network and weekend announcer on smooth fm. Wilkins graduated from teachers’ college, where he majored in English and music. After college, he decided to become a musician and thereafter he was signed to a deal record under the name Richard Wilde. In 1980 he went to Australia, to further his music career and brought up his band Wilde And Reckless. With his band, he released some singles and a six-track EP and toured with Grace Jones. Later after, Richard resigned from the music industry and work behind the scenes as Promotions and Marketing Manager for Sydney radio stations 2Day FM and 2UW.
Moreover, he was in a crew that released the top-30 single “You’re Not Alone” in Australian Olympians’ group. Besides his career as a musician, Wilkin is also an actor who portrayed the role of Vince Fontaine in the mega-production “Grease: The Arena Spectacular”. In 1987, he become the original host of MTV Australia alongside Joy Smithers and Alison Drower.

Five years later, he began hosting a game show titled Keynotes, a summertime replacement for Sale of the Century. After that, Wilkin also hosted the Australian version of Entertainment Tonight with Marie Patane. Additionally, he hosted the Sydney New Year’s Eve fireworks telecast for more than nine years. Later, he joined the Nine Network as the Entertainment editor and presenter for the daily features. While there, Richard covered major highlights which includes The Academy Awards, and Golden Globe red carpets among other special events. In 2006 he reprised his role, winning acclaim as Vince Fontaine in the mega-production “Grease: The Arena Spectacular”.
Furthermore, he also served as the presenter of the Australian leg of the Live Earth concert. There he reported live on the deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson on 26 June 2009. In 2011, he published his autobiography book called Black Ties, Red Carpets, and Green Rooms, co-written with Carrie Hutchinson, which went on to be a bestseller. Prior to that, Richard also hosted the weekend Mornings on smooth fm 91.5 in Melbourne and smooth fm 95.3 in Sydney.
Throughout his career, Wilkins has been honored with several awards including becoming a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), for “significant service to the community through a range of charities. Also, he won two Australian Commercial Radio Awards for Best Music Special: for John Farnham and Michael Buble. Most recently he co-hosts the Weekend Today after replacing David Campbell.
