Roland Abante is a Filipino singer and songwriter who rose to fame for auditioning on week 3 of the eighteenth season of America’s Got Talent which began in June 2023. For his first audition, Roland was joined by a translator because he could only speak and understand only just a bit of English. However, he received a standing ovation and wowed the judges after singing his own rendition of the famous When a Man Loves a Woman song. Abante revealed to the judges before the audition that his big dream was to be on America’s Got Talent despite working his normal day job as a Fisherman in the Philippines.
Abante was born and raised in the small town of Santander on Cebu Island in the Philippines. He grew up in a very small poor neighborhood as the oldest in his family. Roland’s parents struggled to make a living. Therefore, he concluded his studies in high school but he never went to college. Abante began doing casual jobs around the city of Cebu. His struggles in the city never broke him. So every night, he would sing at Kareoke’s for fun whenever he didn’t have food.
A few years later, he was helped by a close friend who offered him a job to work as a Fisherman. Roland also took up another day job by working at a motorbike business transporting people and goods from one place to another. His work allowed him to save money and he was able to go to America and follow hsi break dream to be on America’s Got Talent in 2023.
